2024 Oscar Nominations: Surprises & Snub

The 2024 Oscar nominations have made people feel surprised and disappointed. Let's talk about the good and bad parts of the nominees this year and the things that have caught people's attention in the movie world.

It was surprising and unfortunate that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig weren't nominated for best actress and director for "Barbie." Even though Robbie was recognized as a producer and Gerwig's screenplay was praised, they weren't nominated.

Conversely, America Ferrera's supporting actress nomination for "Barbie" was a delightful surprise, highlighting her standout performance amidst the film's stellar cast. Similarly, Sandra Hüller's inclusion in "Anatomy of a Fall" left many pleasantly astonished, showcasing the unpredictable nature of the Oscars.

However, the snubs didn't spare seasoned talents like Leonardo DiCaprio, whose exclusion for "Killers of the Flower Moon" sparked discussions on the unpredictability of the best actor category. The absence of acclaimed works like "May December" and "The Holdovers" further underscored the fierce competition in this year's lineup.

Yet, amidst the disappointments, there were shining moments of recognition, such as Justine Triet's surprise nomination for best director, adding a fresh perspective to the race. Jonathan Glazer's "The Zone of Interest" also emerged as a dark horse, earning accolades across multiple categories, including best picture and adapted screenplay.
